This section is for locations that are specifically art-oriented. It's not that other parts of SL aren't artwork in and of themselves, but these places don't really serve any other particular purpose.
I really didn't want to start this one, but once in a while I bump into places that really(and I mean -really-) won't fit in anywhere.
Here we go...
Blackwater Sculpture Art Gallery - Another art gallery, but this one appears to be exclusively for sculptures. Very interesting, and at least decent-sized.
Redivivus Art Gallery - A smallish modern art gallery.

Childrens
This section is for locations that are specifically kid-friendly. Whether deemed "mature" or not(I personally don't care if someone swears around my kid) Second Life offers a TON of places that are awesome for any child who can operate a keyboard.
I have a daughter of my own, and though my parents probably don't want her in SL(not that they understand what it is really heh), that's just too bad.
Alfheim Forest - Billed as an "Enchanted Dreamland" it is pretty much just that. Complete with big wood-carved statues of forest animals, it's a beautiful area where the sun is always settings...and the waves are always calm.
AKK Horse Ranch - Wow. Simply amazing. A horsie ranch. For all those girls and boys who will never actually have a pony, here's the place to go!
Enchantment Island - A beautiful amusement park area, featuring 12 different rides.
New Beginnings Adption Center - Definitely not the place to bring a kid without adult supervision, still thanks to it being an area for adults who -want- to be children, there's quite a bit that a real child would enjoy. Just keep an eye on them...and avoid the main adoption area(unless you're "into that").
Tiny Tykes Kids Mall & Adoption - Another place similar to the above, though it looks thankfully less shopping-oriented.
Whippersnapper Estate - A series of areas that have been designated child-friendly. Haven't explored much but one thing is fun...they have a piano ala the movie Big.

Natural
This section is for locations that are simply beautiful, or just fun to visit. There may or may not be anything to do, per se, yet they're fun anyways just in the sense that a sunrise is fun.
Alpine Executive Center - This place bills itself as a virtual business meeting area, but there's also a ton activities, a ski hill, a train, etc. Had to list it. Hope you don't mind the snow...
Blueberry Hill Dance Hall - A club, a beach, all sorts of things. Reminds me of Laguna Beach or something from There.com. There's also a neighbor with a for-real There.com-style radio! It even switches channels. Sweet...pretty awesome.
Botanical @ Straylight - A beautiful forest area, where apparently plants and shrubs are sold. It's a little bit on the laggy side, but definitely worth it...simply beautiful.
Floatsam Beach - A beautiful beachfront area reminiscent of various boardwalks in real life. Worth checking out.
Lost Gardens Of Apollo - A beautiful nature reserve area, complete with fauna, waterfall, etc. Usually very popular, so don't mind the natives.
Muse Isle - A beautiful, romantic set of islands...apparently billed as the Caribbean or something. i.e. A place for couples. Quite nice, though a bizarre combo of things to do.
New Brighton Pier - Another beautiful boardwalk area. Haven't checked it out, yet.
Quan Li - Tropical island beach area where one can hang out, buy swimsuit gear...and surf. Huh, I wonder how that works.
Real Waves - Technically an advertising area for a specific way of creating waves, it's also peaceful enough to just hang out.

Gaming
This section lists places that fit into the more generic gaming genre. Included you'll find such things as actual, working arcade games(i.e. not in a browser, amazing) as well as skateboarding, paintball, and whatever else I happen to find as I wander around in-world.
2raw - 777 League Racing. Looks like a pretty decent racetrack here. Need to head back and give it a spin.
Amber Raceway - A super-bike racing track, with related shopping. Looks pretty cool.
EMH Motors Raceway - Yet another raceway, looks fun though.
Free Helicopter Flights - Hop on-board a helicopter and explore a beautiful snow-capped mountain area.
Global Online Hockey Assoc. - Taking virtual sports into the future. Pretty awesome, though I haven't yet seen a game. Hockey, in Second Life...sweet.
KJ Go Kart Racing - Yet another racing track, but this one for Go-Karts! Looks pretty sweet, definitely have to check it out.
Southhaven - Looks like seal-based harness racing never went out of style. This place looks really fun, though I'm not sure how I feel about seals instead of dogs.
Virtual Sports Nexus - Amazing skatepark. Being a former There.com guy, I'm still drooling all over my hoverboard from this place...and trying to figure out what to do with it. The only downside is the gravity here is...well...I dunno, one floats a lot?
Wilder Skies - Free airplane rides on the middle of a massive aircraft carrier? Okay...Haven't tried this one yet but if nothing else it's something to see.
