FYI: Future Site Updates Will Be Few

After trying literally everything I can think of, there's still no easy way to find this website via Ask, Bing, Google, or pretty much any other search engine I've tried. My personal theory is that there's simply too much data out there and no organization can effectively index it anymore.

That said, basically I'll still maintain this website...but any and all hopes of actually making a little bit of money on said site are pretty much gone. C'est la vie.

P.S. Use Microsoft Bing, the only search engine left that one can search for "pornography" and not find an opinion of how pornography is bad, that you ARE addicted, and where you can get help. *sigh* Might as well support the concept of Internet Neutral Search(i.e. NO opinions dammit!)

Welcome

Welcome to the SL Places Directory.

This site is an attempt to categorize and make available as many enjoyable and reliable places as possible in the virtual world known as Second Life.

Fun places, working links, places to go...and my apologies if you end up farther away from the entrance than you'd like to be. I'm guessing that's the land owner's choice. Blegh.

Note For Parents: If you think I'm somewhat nuts for including kid's links in the exact same pile with sex, perhaps you're right. But being as that whole sex thing is how the kids came about, I thought it appropriate to provide other parents with useful and wholesome links so that when their kid is around they can both have fun.

Enjoy,

Adam W. Dace (aka "Forbin Fallen" in Second Life)

Second Life Links

This section lists various websites, both official, and unofficial, that I believe make up the overall world of Second Life. Basically, since the official site is somewhat difficult to navigate, I decided to make my own list.

Official Second Life Links:

Second Life Home Page - This is what it says, the official homepage for Second Life.

Second Life Account Page - This is where you can manage your account, update your personal information, age verification, etc.

Second Life Blogs
- Official blogs.

Second Life Forums - Official forums.

Second Life Support - Official support area.

Second Life Status - Downtime and maintenance information directly from Second Life.

Second Life Wiki - Official wiki.

Unofficial Links:

Cool Viewer (Linux And Windows) - My preferred viewer of choice. Go here if you run Linux or Windows.

Cool Viewer (MacOS) - My preferred viewer of choice. Go here if you run MacOS.

Other Second Life Viewers - While technically on an official Second Life site, none of these viewers are officially supported. Interesting collection, though.

Definitions And FYI

This section lists definitions for some of the funky descriptive words seen in other posts, as well as general FYI things I've figure out in-world.

Definitions:

EMPTY - Pretty much every time I've ever been to this location it is empty. And by that I mean, there's noone around. Gather up a group of friends and you've got yourself an exclusive getaway.

UNPOPULAR - Pretty much every time I've ever been to this location there's 3 or less people milling about. If you're looking to avoid lag, head here.

P.S. If I've mistakenly marked any place any of these terms, and am wrong, please let me know. I try to keep them all straight. *gurgle*

FYI:

Simulator Downtime - Unfortunately, each island / area in Second Life is pinned to a software instance and CPU within their infrastructure. While the overall grid is very stable, Your Milage May Vary when it comes to individual areas. When one is unavailable, just try it later.

Simulator Slowdown - Another unfortunately, I've been lucky enough(ha! not really) to discover a few different ways to slow down or potentially crash a simulator.

DONT DO THESE:

- One is to futz with the "custom" graphics settings in any popular area.
- Another is to pan the point-of-view camera more than necessary.

I'll keep adding to the above as time goes on. Since these probably won't be fixed anytime soon...at least there's a list. :)
